Flames sign Morrison and Waive Pelech

Flames sign Brendan Morrison, why and what does this mean? Also Pelech on waivers!

The Calgary Flames signed centre Brendan Morrison to a one year $750,000 contract on Monday! The reasoning is simple, with all the injuries Sutter looked at Morrison as a cheap reliable and veteran guy who could fill a centre position and also provide some offence and creativity. Morrison was cut on Sunday by the Canucks from his pro try out with the club and quickly became a target by Flames fans to be the guy that joins the team due to the recent injuries.

Looking at it with a fresh eye it clearly states guys such as Langkow and Stajan will not return any day soon. Also I have a tough time seeing negatives to this signing, yes he is “old” and his best days are behind him but maybe this means Naslund is next and we can say we had the big 3 from the Canucks in the past! To me this signing completely makes sense and it shows Sutter is not sitting back and hoping guys like Sutter, Conroy and Backlund can find magic and bridge the gap until Stajan and Langkow get healthy.

On another note the Flames waived d-man Matt Pelech in hopes that he will clear and play in Abbotsford to start the year. Pelech did not impress or play his game in the pre-season and probably needs some more time to get confortable and get his confidence back after his health issues last year!

Flames Jambalaya is in no way, shape or form associated with the Calgary Flames Hockey Club or the AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Heat. This is a fans blog for fans. We just happen to love the Flames, so we write about it.
