Flames vs Wild
SNET-W 6:00pm MT
The Flames roll into Minnesota needing two points in the worst way. Minnesota gets some life back with the return of their captain Mikko Koivu. The Flames however lose Sarich to a concussion but get Butler, Bouma and Blair Jones back from injury.
This game has a different meaning for each club. For the Flames they need a win to stay afloat in the Western Conference playoff picture. But for the Wild they are playing spoilers; after a great start to the season it has been nothing but bad hockey and a massive slide down the standings. Both clubs understand the meaning of this game for the Flames and are assured the Wild are not going to let Calgary have the two points.
The area I am most nervous for is the face-off circle. We know the Flames have been nutritious in that area and with the Wild being 6% better coming in; I expect the struggles to continue for the Flames. But with that said the Wild power play has been bad all season operating at a 15% success rate. Yes Flames fans, the Flames are better in that category than their rival.
We can break down every player and every stat, but unless this Flames team comes out with intensity and no fear, it will not matter. The Flames have dropped key points in their last three against opponents they should and could have beat.
It is no secret that the Flames are going to need help from other teams. But with a win tonight they can set themselves up to in a solid position heading into a home and home with Dallas. Let us hope the team is engaged and Kipper is Kipper; if so the two points will be ours tonight against the vulnerable Minnesota Wild.
